Financial Assistance

The Army Community Service Financial Readiness Program (ACS) offers many classes/workshops and information about community resources if you need financial assistance.

They Financial Readiness program can show you ways to start saving for your upcoming move. Options are available to request an advance from your finance office to be used for temporary lodging, housing costs and deposits at your new duty station. Just remember, advances must be repaid, but planning ahead and preparing will help you make a successful move a lot less financial stress.

If you need financial assistance, contact Army Emergency Relief (AER) at 910-396-2507 Hrs Mon-Fri 0900-1700.  AER provides interest-free loans or grants for emergency transportation, funerals, medical/dental bills, food, rent, utilities, essential vehicle repairs as well as help when disaster strikes.  The FRP also provides financial counseling and classes.

American Red Cross

To assist AER, the American Red Cross processes interest-free loans for emergency travel in conjunction with emergency leave orders after normal duty hours and on weekends for AER. Additional assistance may be provided to avoid privation which includes food, shelter and clothing. Emergency communication is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 877-272-7337 (toll-free). Workers also obtain health and welfare reports.

When first arriving to Fayetteville, soldiers and their families are often surprised by the initial outlay of dollars required to get established in the community. Waiting time for government quarters can be upwards of 18 months, depending on the family size and time of the year that you complete a permanent change of station. Families are often required to rent a temporary dwelling until they can obtain on-post quarters. Area rental agencies usually require a deposit equal to one month's rent as well as the first month's rent and the last month's rent up front. Start saving now to prepare. Car Insurance

All vehicles with a valid North Carolina registration are required by state law (G.S. 20-309) to have continuous liability insurance provided by a company licensed to do business in North Carolina.

Out-of-state policies are not accepted.

Liability insurance protects drivers and their families against injuries and property damage caused by the negligence of other drivers who might have limited, minimum or no liability insurance.

To avoid fines and fees, an individual should not cancel their insurance until they have surrendered their license plate to the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles.

North Carolina law (G.S. 20-279.21) also requires insurance coverage for uninsured/underinsured motorists, as well as minimum bodily injury and property damage limits. This is required for all policies, even if they exceed the minimum requirements.

In North Carolina, it is mandatory to have car insurance. The minimum amount of liability insurance required is $30,000 bodily injury for each person, $60,000 total bodily injury for all persons in an accident and $25,000 for property damage. Make sure you have uninsured motorist coverage when obtaining your coverage.
