If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. Post-secondary colleges that are on-post are located in Bldg. 9230, Soldier for Life Center. They are the following:
Central Texas College – Central Texas College offers both on-line and in-class options for a variety of Associate degree programs. They have on-post classes for Math, English, Speech and more!
Columbus State University -- offers over 70+ Bachelor's, Masters and Ph.D programs including fully online degrees. They have placed an office with friendly staff in Bldg. 9230 for convenience. Columbus State University provides instate tuition to Soldiers and their dependents.
Columbus Technical College -- Columbus Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, is a two year public college, which offers programs and services that support student and community success. We are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award the Associate Degree, Diploma, and Technical Certificates of Credit, to include customized training and continuing adult education. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University -- Embry-Riddle is the world’s pre-eminent university for aviation and aerospace education. However, our dynamic, hands-on programs will prepare you for a career in many industries, not just ones in the skies. The Embry-Riddle Fort Moore Campus offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, as well as undergraduate certifications that will help you achieve a higher position in your current company or make you an attractive job candidate in a new business or field.
Troy University - Fort Benning -- Troy University offers a variety of Associate, Baccalaureate, and Graduate degree programs. They have classes both online and in-person, and have three convenient locations in the area: Ft. Moore, Georgia, Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama.
University of Oklahoma Extended Campus- offers both classroom and online degree programs that range from a Bachelors program to a Master’s program or Doctorate in several areas to include Criminal Justice, Administrative Leadership, Human Relations, and International Relations. OU also offers graduate certificate programs in the area of Human Resource Diversity and Development as well as Helping Skills in Human Relations.
University of Maryland University College -- University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers award-winning Baccalaureate and Graduate Degree programs and services for active-duty military, veterans, and their families. UMUC offers classes online or in a hybrid format. Students earn credit for military experience and training and save money with reduced tuition rates for active-duty military service members and their dependents.
The Functional Academic Skills Training (FAST) program, also known as the Basic Skills Education Program (BSEP) provides tutored sessions to help Soldiers master mathematical, reading, and writing skills required by their Army jobs. These courses vary in length and delivery, based on the needs and developmental level of the Soldier. Soldiers can enroll at any time as long as there is space available.
Testing Center
The Army Testing Center is home of Army personnel testing. Testing is done on an appointment basis and can be scheduled over the phone or in person. Some test are scheduled regularly on specific dates. Testing services are mainly available for Soldiers; however, they can be made available for Family Members and Civilians.
Army personnel test that are available are: TABE-The Adult Basic Education test, SIFT, AFCT-Armed Forces Classification Test, DLAB-Defense Language Aptitude Battery, DLPT-Defense Language Proficiency Test (call for current language options), and an OPI-Oral proficiency Interview.
