Relocation Assistance

Your Military and Family Support Center provides relocation assistance to help make PCS moves as smooth as possible. Resources include:

• PCS planning: Most relocation assistance programs offer consultations to help you with the moving process. If this your first military move, your first time moving overseas or you have challenging or complex circumstances contact your installation Relocation Assistance Program as soon as possible for support.
• Plan My Move: An online Defense Department relocation tool that provides you with customizable checklists and links to helpful resources for the tasks ahead.
• Military OneSource: A website and call center that offer 24/7 support for moving information and resources. • Workshops and briefings: Workshops vary by location. You may find classes on housing options, moving with children, moving with pets and more.
• Predeparture briefings: These sessions provide essential information about your move and may be required for some populations.
• Special needs: If you have a child or family member enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program, contact your installation EFMP-Family Support office to assist you.
• Settling-in services: Look for welcome programs or local area tours that may offered. Overseas services may include introductory language classes and cultural awareness activities.
• Foreign-born spouse support: Assistance includes information and referral to resources such as immigration and naturalization.
• Emergency assistance: Sometime emergencies occur while moving. The Military and Family Support Center has the resources to provide emergency financial assistance, as well as information and referrals.
• Authorized housing flexibility options: Eligible service members with PCS orders may be entitled to flexibilities such as extended stays in government housing and early housing eligibility. Contact your military personnel office for more information.
• Spouse licensure reimbursement: Your service branch may reimburse spouses up to $1,000 for relicensure and certification costs resulting from relocations or PCS moves. Temporary Lodging Expense reimbursement can be claimed for up to 10 days; however, your lodging must be prior to signing out on leave at your current duty station or in the area of your new duty station. Any lodging expenses while traveling en route are already included in your travel pay. Contact the Battalion S-1 section with any additional questions about temporary lodging. Call

Travel

Make sure to carry the following:

• Army Leave Request Form DA 31
• Orders with amendments, if applicable
• TLE: Hotel, motel, other lodging receipts
• Do It Yourself (partial/full): Entire packet given by the transportation office -- checklist,
  DD 1351-2, DD 2278, weight receipts (empty and full for all vehicles used, to include rentals). Also, carry the receipt for payment to the facility to weigh the vehicle, registration for any privately owned vehicles, rental equipment contracts showing payment (i.e. U-Haul receipt and/or contract for the vehicle and associated items like hand trucks), all gas receipts (originals).
• Dependent Travel -- If traveling separately from your sponsor and if travel was paid at your own expense, the sponsor must provide receipts and an itinerary for the travel.
• If Family Separation Allowance hasn't been settled for the Army Recruiting Course, it may be settled here, but you must have your DD 1610 or Defense Travel System orders, DD 1351-2 and your paid travel voucher.
• DD 93 and Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance: Have beneficiaries’ addresses and contact information (i.e. phone number).
• Enlisted Record Brief -- Bring a copy of your ERB, especially important for active Guard Reserve soldiers. Supporting documents: awards, schools (i.e. 1059 or certificate), Army Recruiter Course Certificate (diploma), Primary Military Occupational Specialty Orders, Non-Commissioned Officer Evaluation Reports or Officer Evaluation Reports.
• Bring a copy of your marriage license and birth certificates for each child listed as dependents.
• If you were in Government Leased Housing, we will need a copy of your move-out inspection or memo that reflects your termination date. This is needed in order to start the Basic Allowance for Housing at your current duty location.
• If you shipped a vehicle from Outside the Continental United States, we will need a copy of all documents provided.
