The 1st Medical Recruiting Battalion is a geographically-dispersed unit with many locations considered "remote" as they are located further than 50 miles away from the nearest military installation. Unit members who live near military installations are encouraged to use MilitaryINSTALLATIONS for specific local and installation resources and information. Due to the geographical dispersal of the units within USAREC, Soldiers and Families may find themselves living many miles from a military installation. For some, transitioning into a civilian community can be difficult.

The 1st Medical Recruiting Battalion is located on Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, midway between the cities of Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington, D.C. The Battalion's Area of Operations includes Medical Recruiting Companies in the Military District of Washington, Boston, New York City, and Pittsburgh, and 20 recruiting centers from Charleston, West Virginia to Portland, Maine as well as Landstuhl, Germany. Centers are based in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Some locations are close to a military installation.
