The U.S. Army Recruiting Command and its Soldiers, Families, Civilians and Contractors are the Army’s trusted ambassadors to the American people. We “Provide the Strength” from the 1,400-plus recruiting stations nationwide and overseas.
Recruiting is one of the most critical jobs in the Army and it’s an extremely important mission. USAREC is a geographically dispersed unit, located throughout the 48 continental states, Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Europe, Guam, Saipan, Japan and Korea.
Due to the geographical dispersal of the units within USAREC, Soldiers and Families may find themselves living many miles from a military installation. For some, transitioning into a civilian community can be difficult.
USAREC stands proudly knowing we have Soldiers and Families like you who are up for a challenge. Ensuring the quality of life for our Soldiers, Families, Civilians and Contractors is as important as the annual mission. Taking care of each other only makes us stronger. As a team – with Soldiers, Families, Civilians and Contractors hand in hand – we will strive daily to achieve success. We pledge to give you all we have to ensure your time in USAREC is nothing short of rewarding.
The United States Army Recruiting Battalion Minneapolis recruits soldiers, both officers and enlisted, to meet the needs of an expeditionary Army, begins the transformation from civilian to Soldier, acts as the Army's liaison with the American people, and does all with integrity and a professionalism that clearly demonstrates the warrior ethos and Army values. We remain relevant and ready to provide the strength for our Army, today and into the future.
The Minneapolis Recruiting Battalion, with headquarters at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, was originally established as the Minneapolis District Recruiting Command in Fiscal Year 1972. It was redesignated as the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Minneapolis in 1983 for Active Army and Army Reserve recruitment. The geographic area of operation, which started as most of Minnesota and Western Wisconsin, added North Dakota in 1993 and all of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1994. The Battalion's area of operation was realigned in 1995 to recruit quality men and women from the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota.
In March 2008, the organization underwent additional transformation with the addition of Iowa, making U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Minneapolis one of the largest battalions in the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. The Battalion has traditionally exceeded special recruitment missions, to include Band, Officer, and Warrant Officer Flight Training Programs.
The Minneapolis Recruiting Battalion covers a 'footprint' that covers the states of Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota. We also cover a small section of Southwestern Illinois. Our 1 District and 7 Companies encompass over 290,000 square miles of beautiful landscapes, exciting tourist destinations, and diverse cultures.
Most of the Battalion's locations are remote from installation support. However, there are a few Air Force Bases in the Dakotas and one very small Army Base located in Southwestern Illinois where very limited support is provided to our Soldiers and their Families.
The only installation support we have are as follows:
