New York City Recruiting Battalion enlists talented and qualified volunteers from New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County, who are representative of the diversity that makes our nation great, while staying committed to our Soldiers, Civilians, and Families.
The battalion's headquarters is located at historic Fort Hamilton in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. This location is significant as it was where the first shots of the Battle of Brooklyn were fired. Continental artillery batteries engaged HMS Asia in the Verrazano Narrows and then displaced and moved to the vicinity of Brooklyn Heights with Gen. George Washington's infantry. Re-established as a permanent installation in 1825, Fort Hamilton has been the home of the 1st Infantry Division, the Harbor Defenses of New York and the U.S. Army Chaplain School as well as the headquarters of both the North Atlantic Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the New York City Recruiting Battalion.
The New York City Recruiting Battalion is located on Fort Hamilton, in Brooklyn, New York. New York's nickname is "The Big Apple" -- or maybe you have heard it referred to as "The City That Never Sleeps."
New York offers fabulous museums, theatres, restaurants, sports and more. The public transportation system makes New York one of the easiest cities to travel in, bringing what the city has to offer within reach.
Comprised of six companies, 34 stations and roughly 348 soldiers and civilians, the U.S. Army New York City Recruiting Battalion is responsible for all Regular Army and initial entry Army Reserve recruiting and enlists and ships more than 2,000 new soldiers to the Regular Army and 600 soldiers to the Army Reserve each year.
