Legal Assistance

Most military installations have legal assistance offices where military identification card holders may obtain various free services. The Fort Meade Legal Assistance Division provides direct, confidential legal assistance to members of the armed forces and their family members, retired military personnel and their family members, and survivors of members of the army forces who would be eligible if the service member was still living. Reserve Component personnel on active duty for 30 days or more are also entitled to legal assistance.

The Fort Meade Claims Division processes administrative claims by military personnel and Department of the Army civilians for losses incident to service. Personnel claims include those for damage to household goods during a permanent change of station move, privately owned vehicles transportation damage, on-post POV theft, vandalism and damage at on-post quarters. For those not near an installation with an Army claims office, the Remote Claims Assistance Program provides assistance with claims against carriers or transportation service providers for loss or damage to their household goods shipment or other damage to or loss of their personal property incurred incident to service.
