Base Services and Support:
AAFES Shoppette
Volkel Air Base hosts a small AAFES Exchange with a variety of snack and food items, workout supplements, toiletries, and extras. The Shoppette only accepts US Dollars, STAR/ECP cards, and credit/debit cards.
Base Finance
The Base Finance office completes virtually all aspects of a Main Operating Base’s finance support. Services include Initial Travel Vouchers, Temporary Lodging Allowance payments, Management of the 703 MUNSS financial plan, and activating the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). Service Members should contact Finance withing five (5) business days to complete travel voucher.
Chaplain Services
Currently there is one Chaplain assigned to Volkel Air Base. Catholic Services are available in the surrounding towns. Additionally, the Chaplain is able to provide information regarding services for all faiths. Individual counseling sessions are also available as needed with the Chaplain.
Dining Facility
The 703 MUNSS Dining Facility (DFAC) is available to all US personnel, family members, and Dutch assigned base personnel. Currently, the DFAC accepts cash in euros, credit, and debit cards. Meals are served for breakfast and lunch.
First Salute Lounge
Volkel Air Base has several clubs for both US and Dutch personnel. The First Salute Lounge (FSL) is the US club available to all assigned personnel, family members, and Dutch base personnel. Guests are also welcome. The FSL offers an evening grill-style menu with some added extras throughout the week. The lounge is member of the Air Force Clubs program and offers special rates to club members with a monthly fee of only $2.00. This membership does not require a credit card application and offers food/program savings at all Air Force Clubs across the world. The lounge currently accepts euros for payment.
Fitness Center
The US fitness center is available for all personnel with base access for ages 13 and up or 16 years old without parent supervision. Equipment includes a generous cardio room, ample weightlifting space, and CrossFit setups as well. Our fitness center staff also manages the base intramural program year-round, available for any Active Duty and dependent family members 18 years of age or older. The fitness center is open 24 hours, under camera surveillance. There is also a Dutch Fitness center that offers an indoor facility for basketball, racquetball, and volleyball. If the facility is closed, your base pass will allow access if required until 2200 hrs.
Housing Office
Volkel Air Base has an on-site housing manager that facilitates with all aspects of finding, contracting and troubleshooting housing within the Netherlands. Since there is no on-base housing available, all personnel will receive Overseas Housing Allowance OHA, Utilities Allowance, and a one-time Move-In Housing Allowance (MIHA). The housing office also facilitates Temporary Lodging Allowance payments for newcomers.
Laundry Facility
A small laundry facility with three washers and three dryers is offered 24 hours daily.
Library
Our site is happy to provide a growing library program for US patrons. The library is a member of the USAFE Libraries program that receives frequently refreshed materials for our available selection. They currently have a wide variety of fiction, non-fiction, reference, travel, language, and children’s books in both print and audio formats. The library also rents DVD/Blu-Ray movies and console games for various platforms.
Medical Support
The Medical Aid Station consists of Independent Duty Medical Technicians (IDMTs) and a Medical Administration Technician to provide or coordinate all medical care for Active Duty members. They also provide Basic Life Support (BLS) training, connects with the host nation for medical support, coordinates dental care, and works with the local medical community and hospitals. While not able to provide care for dependents, they do provide some liaison services to help dependents on the economy.
Military & Family Life Counselor
Volkel Air Base has an assigned MFLC every three months. The MFLC provides short-term, non-medical counseling to service members and their families at no cost. The MFLC augments existing military support and offers flexible service delivery. The Volkel AB MFLC can provide services on or off of military installations that are offered to individuals, couples, families and groups.
Post Office
The 703 MUNSS has its own Military Post Office. As an MPO, they can handle all financial transactions normally associated with a larger post office. The post office provides support to all assigned personnel, as well as some US retirees and other remotely assigned members. 703 MUNSS personnel are assigned a box in the Postal Service Center (PSC) and receive mail there.
School Liaison Officer
A civilian Non-DoD Schools Program (NDSP) representative is available on base to facilitate any educational requirements you or your family may have. Additional support available through the Spangdahlem program.
Support Our Families
Support Our Families is a private organization that supports the 703 Munitions Support Squadron in function and structure. It consists of an executive board, standing committees and members. Membership is voluntary and open to active duty members, spouses, and civilians associated with the Volkel AB community. Members are involved in many activities and committees such as the welcoming committee for newcomers to Holland. SOF receives funds from donations and fundraising activities. In the past, SOF funds have supported activities such as barbecues, adult and children’s holiday parties, themed dances, special occasion dinners, teen skating and pizza parties. The success of SOF’s community support depends on its members and participation.
Volkel AFSA Local Chapter
The Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) is a professional organization here at Volkel. Their mission is to advocate and educate Airmen and their families about key activities that impact the Air Force on Capitol Hill. AFSA supports the unit through contributions to morale events, leadership seminars, guest speakers, and political awareness. Membership is open to all enlisted personnel and family members. Officers may join as associate members.
Volkel Key Spouse Program
The Key Spouse Program is a formal unit program that offers support to individuals and families. Members of the program, including the Key Spouse, must be appointed by the Commander. Volkel has a very active Key Spouse Program, with members representing all flights within the squadron.
