Tricare Overview
The health care system that each recruiter and family will utilize when they are in the Seattle Battalion varies greatly depending on the location and surrounding facilities. Part of processing into the Battalion is a briefing on medical and dental issues and how to obtain care. This will be individualized to each recruiter and their circumstances. The Soldier and Family Assistance program manager is also the beneficiary counseling and assistance coordinator for the Battalion and is available at 206-764-6743 or 800-790-0963 ext 68. Not all recruiting stations in the Seattle Battalion are in the vicinity of a military treatment facility. The civilian contractor for the western region is TriWest Health Care Alliance located at P.O. Box 43590 Phoenix, AZ 85080-3590 and reachable by phone at 888-TRIWEST or 888-874-9378.
The U.S. Army Recruiting Command and its soldiers, families, civilians and contractors are the Army’s trusted ambassadors to the American people. We “provide the strength” from the 1,400-plus recruiting stations nationwide and overseas.
Recruiting is one of the most critical jobs in the Army and it’s an extremely important mission. USAREC is a geographically disperse unit, located throughout the 48 continental states, Hawaii, Alaska, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Europe, Guam, Saipan, Japan and Korea.
Due to the geographical dispersal of the units within USAREC, soldiers and families may find themselves living many miles from a military installation. For some, transitioning into a civilian community can be difficult.
USAREC stands proud knowing we have soldiers and families like you who are up for a challenge. Ensuring the quality of life for our soldiers, families, civilians and contractors is as important as the annual mission. Taking care of each other only makes us stronger. As a team – with soldiers, families, civilians and contractors hand in hand – we will strive daily to achieve success. We pledge to give you all we have to ensure your time in USAREC is nothing short of rewarding.
The Seattle Recruiting Battalion serves the nation and an Army at war by recruiting the best-qualified men and women from Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Sponsorship
Every soldier assigned to the Seattle Recruiting Battalion will have a sponsor assigned to them to help facilitate in processing and ensure a smooth integration into their respective company and station. Once the battalion command sergeant major has determined the initial assignment location the soldier should call their company first sergeant to introduce themselves and receive the name and phone number of their sponsor.
In March 1969, the president of the United States created a commission chaired by former Secretary of Defense Thomas S. Gates "to develop a comprehensive plan for eliminating conscription and moving toward an all-volunteer armed force."
In response to the commander in chief's proposal and the secretary of defense's zero-draft target date of July 1, 1973, the Army launched a broad range of actions calculated to elevate the professional environment, provide a better quality of life, and inspire public esteem for the men and women who serve the nation.
In 1970, the Army's recruiting service was expanded both in personnel and stations, a process which continued through 1972. Since early 1971, the Seattle Army Recruiting Battalion expanded and contracted several times, first losing Lincoln County Montana then gaining, losing and regaining two counties in Oregon and all of Alaska as part of its geography. Today, the Seattle Battalion covers 687,800 square miles and contains three military entrance processing stations, seven recruiting companies and 24 recruiting centers throughout Washington, Alaska, the "panhandle" of Idaho and eastern Oregon.
