An Ombudsman is a command appointed liaison that serves as a communication link between the command and the families. An Ombudsman is a professionally trained individual that supports the command’s mission, works with the chain of command, and maintains the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism.
An Ombudsman has been professionally trained to serve the command and their families, as well as having a wealth of information and resources to share with the families at all times, including times of crisis and disaster.
Ombudsmen adhere to the strictest code of confidentiality and professionalism to protect the privacy of individuals and maintain the credibility of the Navy Family Ombudsman program.

For your career transition needs, the Great Lakes Fleet and Family Support Center offers guidance and training. These services are provided by our work/family life skills educators and consultants with the Transition Assistance Program and the Family Employment Readiness Program which offer current job information online. To sign up for a class in resume writing, 10 Steps to federal employment or make an appointment to speak with a work/family life skills consultant, call the Great Lakes FFSC at 847-688-3603, ext. 100 for the front desk.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. central. There is also a virtual attendance option if you are not able to attend in person.

If your transition date from the military is within a year (two years for retirement), then see your command career counselor, training non-commissioned officer or officer, to conduct your transition screening and assignment to tier one, two or three transition requirements.

All transition classes are held in Building 617, Room 108, and start at 8 a.m. Register for a Capstone or make arrangements with the transition counselors to conduct a one-on-one Capstone.
