Emergency Assistance Overview

If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.

Victim Assistance

For immediate emergency assistance, please call security at 903-334-2466 or 4019, if on Depot. If off Depot, dial 911.

American Red Cross (ARC)

The American Red Cross can provide limited emergency assistance. The local chapter is located at 821 Spruce St., Texarkana, Texas,75501 and can be reached during normal duty hours at 903-793-5602 or 403-342-3550 or 877-272-7337.

Army Emergency Relief (AER)

Army Emergency Relief provides emergency financial assistance to soldiers (active and retired) and their families in times of distress. Categories of authorized emergency financial assistance are:

Nonreceipt of pay
Loss of funds
Medical, dental and hospital expenses related to TRICARE
Funeral expenses
Required travel due to emergency leave/travel, convalescent leave
Rent
Food
Utilities
Essential privately owned vehicle repairs
Fire or disaster
Others resulting from pandemic

Assistance is given in the form of an interest-free loan, grant or part loan/grant. The American Red Cross is covering for Army Emergency Relief at 877-272-8337 or 877-272-7337.

Important Documents

Before you leave, ensure you have all important papers with you – not packed with your household goods. Make sure you have important phone numbers with you, including your sponsor's. Your sponsor can be very valuable in case of an emergency while in transit. Additionally, spouses and Family members who will be seeking employment should hand carry, or have digital copies of, resumes and any licenses, credentialing paperwork that may be needed. Salvation Army

The local Salvation Army is located at 316 Hazel St. in Texarkana, AR and their phone number is 870-774-2701. They can provide a limited supply of food and possible shelter. They may also be able to refer you to other local agencies for further assistance. Other supports are available on the economy. Army Community Services has a listing at 903-334- 2466 or 4019.
