Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
Planning ahead for the relocation of your pet is essential especially if you will not be living near an installation. Planning for shipment of your pet includes researching airline requirements and quarantine restriction laws in your new location. Keep in mind that many airlines will not ship pets during the summer months due to the heat. The Installation Guest Housing as well as the transient facilities on Fort Knox has pet rooms.
The on post vet does not provide kennel services. However there are several kennels in the local commuting area. All pets must be registered within first 10 days of arrival on post. If unable to reach local offices you may call the Local Soldier and Family Assistance Program Manager at 502-626-0866.
