Relocation Assistance

Your Military and Family Support Center provides relocation assistance to help make PCS moves as smooth as possible. Resources include:

• PCS planning: Most relocation assistance programs offer consultations to help you with the moving process. If this your first military move, your first time moving overseas or you have challenging or complex circumstances contact your installation Relocation Assistance Program as soon as possible for support.
• Plan My Move: An online Defense Department relocation tool that provides you with customizable checklists and links to helpful resources for the tasks ahead.
• Military OneSource: A website and call center that offer 24/7 support for moving information and resources. • Workshops and briefings: Workshops vary by location. You may find classes on housing options, moving with children, moving with pets and more.
• Predeparture briefings: These sessions provide essential information about your move and may be required for some populations.
• Special needs: If you have a child or family member enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program, contact your installation EFMP-Family Support office to assist you.
• Settling-in services: Look for welcome programs or local area tours that may be offered. Overseas services may include introductory language classes and cultural awareness activities.
• Foreign-born spouse support: Assistance includes information and referral to resources such as immigration and naturalization.
• Emergency assistance: Sometime emergencies occur while moving. The Military and Family Support Center has the resources to provide emergency financial assistance, as well as information and referrals.
• Authorized housing flexibility options: Eligible service members with PCS orders may be entitled to flexibilities such as extended stays in government housing and early housing eligibility. Contact your military personnel office for more information.
• Spouse licensure reimbursement: Your service branch may reimburse spouses up to $1,000 for relicensure and certification costs resulting from relocations or PCS moves. As of June 2024, a Welcome Aboard Orientation Video is shown to All New Joins checking in to H&SBN Henderson Hall. Once Marines check in with the BN S-1, Marines will be given a check-in sheet, they will have to check-in with the Marine and Family Programs located in Bldg. 12. and check-in with the Information, Referral and Relocation (IR&R) Program Manager to watch the video. The Weclome Aboard Video is 20 mins long. Once it is completed you will sign a roster that get reported to the BN for accountability, S-3 for a school house code to be run and to receive a $25 gift certificate from MCCS that can be used only at the the Hednerson Hall MCX.

We have a Set Aside Housing Program to assist Marines in finding affordable housing. There is no one-month security deposit, no application fee, and no credit check. In return, the military member agrees to have rent deducted directly from pay through an allotment. This program is designed to help defray the very high housing costs in the MD/DC/VA area.

Installation Specific Information

The Relocation Assistance Program (RAP) - This program is designed to assist military and DoD personnel and their families who are relocating to a new duty station, being deployed, who are separating or retiring from service, or to make the transition from one community to another as trouble-free and smooth as possible.

Pre-departure services include a needs assessment screening for housing, child care, local employment assistance, cultural and community orientation, and assistance to those with special needs.

Sponsorship

The Relocation Program does not assign sponsors.

• To request a sponsor, call H&S Batallion S-1, 703-614-2014 or email HNHL_s1@usmc.mil. 
• Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, mos and actual job title. If you know what section you will work here, include as well.
• The check-out process is handled at the company level. Contact your company admin office to begin the process.
• You are encouraged to visit the Relocation Assistance Office at your current duty station before making your transfer. There you will receive moving advice and information concerning your next duty assignment.

Should you require additional information or a Welcome Aboard e-packet, contact the Henderson Hall Relocation Manager at 703-614-7200. We provide installation and community information as well as relocation tips specific to living in the DC metro area. Call with at least the following information:

• Report date
• Will you be moving with family members?
• Please list name(s) and age of child(ren)
• Would your child(ren) like a sponsor?
• Do you have pets?
• Would you like to reside on base or off?
• What are your living area requirements (# bdrms, # bths, area)?
• If off base, do you expect to rent or buy? What's your max $$$?
• Have you asked for Henderson Hall internet info from the MFP at your current location?
• Do you have internet capability?
• Will your spouse be looking for employment?
• Do your family members have special medical/educational/emotional needs?
• Do you have any other concerns?
• What other information do you want included in your Welcome Aboard packet? Maps?

This information will ensure that your Welcome Aboard packet is personalized for you and your family situation.
