If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. There are several colleges and universities in the Tampa Bay area, including state-supported and private institutions. Students may earn anywhere from an Associate's Degree to a law degree. Active duty members, their spouses, and dependents are eligible for in-state tuition rates to Florida public colleges and universities while assigned within Florida. The following are some higher education opportunities: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University,Hillsborough Community College, and Saint Leo University.
Education Support
AFAS (Air Force Aid Society) awards merit scholarships to dependent children of active duty and retired Airmen or Guardians who demonstrate outstanding academic potential based on GPA.
The Air Force Aid Society provides education support for Airmen, Guardians, and their children and can help pay for college in many ways in addition to the AFAS Merit Scholarship. AFAS also offers the needs based General Henry (HAP) Arnold Grant and helps with college books and tuition with the EFAS Supplemental Education Loan.

The MacDill Education Center is the one-stop shop for all education related subjects, from certificate programs to CCAF degrees, from tuition assistance to CLEP tests. Classes and assistance is available to prepare individuals for exams such as the Graduate Equivalent Diploma (GED), College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and college admission tests.
Educational counseling and advisement services are available to MacDill personnel (military and civilian) and their family members. Residency requirements are waived for military family members within the commuting area. The education center host monthly 'Lunch and Learn' seminars on a variety of topics. The topics range from Veterans Assistance benefits to the ins and outs of tuition assistance. For more information, reach out to the Base Education Center.

Tuition Assistance
The Education Services Flight also approves tuition assistance funds for active duty Air Force personnel. Air Force tuition assistance will cover the actual tuition costs up to $250.00 per semester hour or $166.66 per quarter hour for eligible active-duty airmen. Information pertaining to financial aid is available to all personnel. This includes information about degree programs, course requirements, sources of financial aid (Veteran's Educational Benefits, tuition assistance, PELL, etc.), vocational/technical training, colleges and universities, costs, entrance and eligibility requirements, etc.
