If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
The American Red Cross Service is happy to serve the Fort Johnson community! If you need to generate an Emergency Communication Message (Red Cross Message), contact the American Red Cross Hero Care Center at 877-272-7337. Our Hero Care Center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Fort Johnson Red Cross office is located at 1778 3rd St., Building 220, Fort Johnson, LA. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. For any additional Red Cross information, contact our office at 337-531-4783.

Before you leave your current duty station, make sure you have all your important papers with you (i.e. birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports). If you have school age children please make sure that disenroll them from their school and you bring all their school documentation with you, to include their shot records. If you have pets bring their shot records with you as well. DO NOT PACK THESE ITEMS WITH YOUR HOUSEHOLD GOODS. Make sure you have all important phone numbers such as American Red Cross, new command duty officer and your sponsor. All these numbers can be invaluable in case of an emergency while in transit.
The Financial Readiness Program can provide financial guidance with PCS-travel-related costs. Army Emergency Relief, or any other military installations, and the American Red Cross can also assist in the event that there is a financial emergency while making a PCS. If a soldier does not have a government travel card, and is reporting to their first duty station or is not entitled to an Army-funded move, AER may be able to help.
