When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Learn more about the different options, benefits and discounts that may be available to you through government housing.
The Housing Assistance Office is a liaison between residents, the installation staff and Corvias. The HAO at Fort Johnson is the government side of the partnership (JOHNSON, CORVIAS, PARTNER). The primary source of information on family housing is Corvias Military Housing. It has information on availability of on-post housing.
The government side of the project, the HAO, oversees, monitors, mediates and arbitrates the daily operations of the partnership. The HAO also manages a limited number of two-bedroom homes for senior bachelors in the grades E6-9, warrant officers and officers.
In a rare case where a question is not answered or an issue is not resolved at the Corvias Neighborhood office or at the Corvias Community office, Fort Johnson maintains a small staff at the HAO has backup for residents and Corvias. This is only for use after consulting with your neighborhood and community offices. The HAO is the eyes and ears for the government on behalf of the soldiers and Fort Johnson.

You are eligible for privatized family housing at Fort Johnson if you are an active-duty service member with accompanying family members, DOD, Retired Military, Widows of Retired Military, Gold Star Spouses, Federal Agency Civilians or Base Contractors. On the date of occupancy, new move-ins must have a minimum of six months remaining on their current duty assignment. If you were already married while at your last duty station, your housing application eligibility date will be the date you left your last duty station. If you got married en route, your housing application eligibility date will be the date you got married. If you are a first-term soldier already married when you entered your military housing application, the eligibility date will be the date you entered active duty.

Assignment services: Family housing for accompanied soldiers, regardless of rank, are made at Central In and Out Processing, 1716 3rd St., Building 250.
Service/family members waiting for family quarters may check their status on the waiting list at the Housing Office, Building 1855; by phoning 337-537-5000; or on the internet on the Johnson Corvias website.
Mandatory: A pre-housing information brief is given daily at the Consolidated In and Out Processing Center. Family members are welcome to attend; however, there are no child care provisions for this brief.
All military personnel, including bachelors, seeking to reside off post must process through Housing before making arrangements to rent, lease or buy in the civilian community.
This office has been designated the sole point of contact involving complaints related to housing off post and commanders must ensure that each individual residing off post or seeking off-post housing goes immediately to the Housing office with any form of complaint (such as tenant, landlord, discrimination, etc.).
The mission of the single soldier quarters point of contact is to provide living accommodations in senior enlisted quarters and bachelor officer quarters for permanent party bona fide bachelor soldiers.
Temporary living accommodations are provided for soldiers and their family members arriving or departing the installation on permanent change of station or temporary duty travels. Registration and reservations are made 24/7 at the Holiday Inn Express, 7326 Utah St. Building 522, at 337-531-9000.
There have been changes in the pet policy necessitated by the quantity of issues related to damages in the homes as well as the Army guidance pertaining to pets, as outlined Jan. 5, 2009, and the corresponding support of this guidance through Garrison Policy No. 4 on Jan. 9, 2009.
A maximum of two pets, either dogs or cats in any combination, is authorized per household.
There is a $250 pet deposit for each registered pet (dog or cat). This deposit is fully refundable provided there are no pet damages to the home upon move out.
Pit bulls, American/Staffordshire bull terriers, Rottweilers, Doberman pinschers, chows, wolf hybrids and crosses of these breeds are not allowed in Fort Johnson Family housing.
Ferrets, snakes, reptiles, rodents (other than hamsters and guinea pigs), hedgehogs, pot-bellied pigs, monkeys, arachnids, sylvatic pets (skunks, raccoons, squirrels and other tree- or woods-dwelling animals, etc.) and any other exotic or farm animal are not permitted in housing.
Pets are the responsibility of the resident. As such, the resident will be liable for all damages to include carpet, doors, walls, shades, blinds, screens, appliances, cabinets and other parts of the home or community, including landscaping. Pets will be controlled at all times by their owners. Such control prevents pets from becoming a nuisance or menace to other persons, animals or property. Residents are liable for any injury or damage caused by their pet(s).
Please remember that Picerne Military Housing is a partner with the Army and, as a partner, we take all issues related to pet care and complaints seriously. We work closely with the Directorate of Emergency Services, the Vet Clinic and our Garrison Command to ensure the installation policies are enforced. The changes to the pre-existing pet policy are intended to help in our efforts to mitigate risks associated with potential issues, while supporting the need to reduce the amount of damages to homes being felt within the program. All Soldiers in the rank of E-5 and below who are not colecting BAH at the w/dependents rate are eligible to reside in the barracks. Visitors are required to sign in and out at the company/battery headquarters and must be escorted at all times. Cohabitation and overnight visits in the barracks rooms are strictly prohibited. Roommates must establish and agree to ground rules for visits and agree to any visits prior to taking place. The right to privacy takes precedence over visitation. All nonmilitary visitors under the age of 18 and not a member of the Soldier's immediate family (brother and/or sister) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Good taste must be used when decorating barracks rooms. Soldiers may have Non-Government furniture, telephones, civilian linens, other comforts, etc., BUT will remain financially responsible for all fovernment items signed for on hand receipts. Microwave ovens are permitted. Pets are prohibited. Smoking, lit candles, or any open flame is prohibited anywhere in the barracks.
Alcohol will not be served to Soldiers under the age of 21. Those 21 and older may possess or alcoholic drink in the barracks. It is illegal to provide alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 and those who do will be held responsible and accountable for their participation.
