If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) is the official charity of the U.S. Air Force. Through AFAS interest-free loans and grants are provided for short-term emergencies related to food, rent, utilities, childcare and car repair.
AFAS can be reached by contacting a representative at the Military and Family Readiness Center on any Air Force installation. If there are no Air Force bases nearby, sister services can assist. All military services and the American Red Cross have reciprocal agreements with the AFAS to help people in emergency situations. Members can apply online at the Air Force Aid Society website.
The American Red Cross and the Air Force Aid Society are available for emergency aid. For assistance from the Red Cross, you can call 877-272-7337 at any time, day or night. They can help with emergency financial assistance and contacting people that will need to know where you are and what's happening.
To ensure a smooth transition, your sponsor should have provided you with an electronic copy of: Kunsan Air Base Community Standards, Newcomer's Guide, Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System update instructions and Kunsan's most recent senior staff directives and rules of engagement. A list of important numbers are provided in these documents. It is also recommended you take photocopies of all important documents and numbers to have for quick reference. It is very helpful to exchange social media contact information with your sponsor in the event you need to communicate while traveling and cellphone service is restricted.
Make sure you have all your important papers with you – not packed with your household goods. Write down contact phone numbers for your family and relatives, your sponsor, your gaining unit, orderly room, commander and the command post at Kunsan AB. The phone numbers will be invaluable in case of an emergency while traveling.
