Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events or the installation itself.
SponsorshipIf you are relocating to Kunsan AB, make sure you request a sponsor. Your sponsor will be able to tell you about your unit and give you their contact information where they can be reached. You should receive a "Welcome Package" with information on base facilities, programs, and the local community.
Upon arrival, all personnel newly assigned to Kunsan AB must report to their units' Command Support Section(CSS) and receive appropriate In- Processing checklists. Personnel will be scheduled to attend mandatory briefings and give further guidance on unit-specific items.
Assistance provided to deploying/returning Personnel
Since Kunsan is a 12-month remote tour for the majority of personnel there is no separate assistance other than what is provided in the 8 FW deployment briefings. All the required information will be presented during the deployment briefings at your unit.
Support Groups Available/How to Participate
The Chapel, Mental Health, Airman and Family Readiness Center, Moral Welfare and Recreation from the Force Support Squadron can all provide information and assistance. Contact your First Sergeant or the operator at 315-782-1110 for contact information for these organizations.
Since Kunsan is considered by many to be a "Pre-deployment" assignment many of the briefings received are required before your PCS to the Wolf Pack. However, if you are one of the few who deploy from Kunsan AB you will be scheduled for any pre-deployment briefings by your unit's UDM.
There are no programs available for family members at Kunsan AB. Kunsan AB is a remote, non-command sponsored assignment. For military personnel assigned to Kunsan AB who do have family members, resources to find assistance can be found through Military OneSource and the local Airman and Family Readiness Center in Bldg 755, room 127.
