In order to expedite the process of seeking a job, it is recommended that you hand carry all employment records and documents to include resumes, Department of Defense Form 214 (if applicable), Standard Form 171, SF 50, transcripts, certificates and licenses.

Those seeking a job are encouraged to access employment services with the Fleet and Family Support Center’s Family Employment Readiness Program. The program provides standardized employment information and services. Classes include both basic and advanced resume writing, job-search techniques, interviewing skills, salary negotiation and 10 steps to federal employment.

Individual one-on-one counseling is available on a variety of employment-seeking opportunities, including evaluation and identification of skills, resume writing and interview coaching.

The District of Columbia's Unemployment Compensation Program pays benefits to workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own, and who are ready, willing and able to work. For spouses who are currently working and are transferring to this area, you may be entitled to unemployment benefits. When departing your current position, indicate the reason for leaving as accompanying your military spouse on orders. Contact your current state unemployment agency to check on benefits before transferring.
