Public Private Venture: The Navy entered into a partnership with Lincoln Military Housing who is responsible for the day-to-day management housing. Service members seeking PPV housing must have:
Some of the PPV housing communities have immediate availability whereas; in others there may be a wait. The waiting list for PPV housing varies depending on geographical area and number of bedrooms. You can submit an application via our housing website at: www.cnic.navy.mil. A service member may also appoint a representative with a specific power of attorney to apply for housing. The lease agreement for PPV housing is six months.
Housing referral service: A computerized list of available properties in Hampton Roads – customized to fit your financial, family, and/or specialized needs – is available. Rental listings are available and can be viewed via the Department of Defense website. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or handicap. Contact the housing service center to report any violations in the Fair Housing Act.
Showing service: Transportation to view your selected properties is available for personnel without transportation.
Landlord-tenant Issue resolution: The housing team is available to inspect your home, to review and interpret leases and to provide you information on the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act. Landlord and/or tenant issue resolution counseling on community and/or Public/Private Venture are available to resolve conflicts or maintenance concerns.
Relocation service (Naval Support Activity Norfolk housing service center): Housing assistance is available not only upon your arrival but on departure as well. Services include a self-help library with a variety of information about other duty stations that includes housing, government agencies and average rental and real estate costs.
Real estate service: Monthly workshops are held on the subjects of home buying, selling and property management. Counselors also offer private counseling, specialized information on Veterans Affairs loans, Federal Housing Administration loans and conventional loans, and are certified trainers in the Virginia Housing home ownership education program.
Real estate specialists offer assistance and information about home foreclosures, including financial assistance in the sale of a home when undergoing a permanent chance of station, refinancing and loan modifications. Staging services are available upon request. When requested, a certified home-selling counselor will come to your home and advise you on interior colors, furnishing placement, landscaping and room arrangements in order for you to sell your home.
Service members with eligible family members are strongly encouraged to check in with Yorktown Housing Service Center, located at 1970 Van Steuben Drive within 30 days of arrival. This does NOT obligate you to move into base housing. The Housing Office can provide service members and their families with valuable information about public private venture housing and housing in the local community. Housing can be reached at 757-847-7806 or toll free 800-704-5488.You may request a specific housing area based on your needs, requirements and eligibility entitlements. If available, you will be placed in the appropriate housing area or on a waitlist. Wait time can be as little as zero to three months or as long as 18-24 months. Short-Term Housing
You can expect to stay one-two weeks in a motel or Navy Lodge in your search for housing. Go to www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bah.cfm for Basic Allowance for Housing entitlements. The NL can accommodate a family of four with kitchen facilities and utensils. Reservations should be made as early as possible by calling toll-free 800-628-9466. The Lodge now allows dogs and cats up to 50 pounds.
Housing Service Center will provide you with a list of community short-term rentals upon request.
Navy Gateway Inns and Suites:
This lodging program is primarily available to serve those personnel on funded temporary duty and temporary duty under instruction. When NGIS rooms are not available, personnel are directed to the NL, and only after Navy Gateway Inns and Suites and NL are not available will the NGIS program issue a certificate of nonavailability authorizing the traveler to obtain berthing on the economy.
Armed forces active-duty personnel on PCS orders and their family members will be afforded transient berthing at any of the seven NGIS serving the Hampton Roads region. Transient berthing is at market rates of $99 per day and is on a Space-A basis. There are limited rooms for pets, so call ahead to be sure one is available. For reservations, call 877-NAVY-BED or at the following website: www.dodlodging.net.
Exceptional family members in categories 4 and 5 are eligible for top 10% of the waiting list.
To house them quickly and adequately, personnel with Priority 1A status who specify a preference for a particular neighborhood may be placed on that specific waitlist. However, their status will be changed to Priority 2.
Priority 2: All subcategories are equal and service members will be placed on the waitlist by order of control date.
Priority 3: Does not apply for public/private venture housing.
Priority 4: National Guard and Reserve personnel on active-guard and reserve duty pursuant to an active-duty or full-time National Guard for a period of 180 consecutive days
Priority 5: Unaccompanied military families
