With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
Living conditions on the island are excellent and personnel are normally assigned permanent rooms upon arrival. All personnel (officer and enlisted) have Unaccompanied Housing (UH) private quarters, which includes a fully-furnished living area with full-size bed, and bathroom with toilet and a shower/tub combination. There is no sharing of rooms, only the common area lounges.
All bachelor enlisted quarters (BEQ) have a common lounge with a color TV, a pool table, a common kitchen with a stovetop, an oven, and a microwave. The BEQs are also equipped with an adequate number of washers and dryers on each floor. No open cooking or flame-producing cookware is permitted in the BEQs (some BEQs have kitchenettes, which are designated for senior E-6). Microwave ovens, popcorn poppers, and coffee pots are authorized. All bachelor officer quarters (BOQ) are equipped with kitchenettes (some with ovens and some with only stovetops). TVs and DVD players are available in all rooms. WIFI is available for purchase via SURE (only available internet company on the island).
There is no family housing available; all orders to Diego Garcia are unaccompanied.
