The Hungarians have a strict access policy that may take quite some time to process. You should complete the "HAW Form 5" provided to you by your sponsor well in advance of your arrival and submit to your sponsor.
Papa Air Base is a remote Geographically Separated Unit (GSU), with almost none of the infrastructure that one becomes accustomed to at Main Bases. There are no large support offices such as an MPF, housing, etc. All of these service are provided by Aviano AB. Therefore, the United States National Support Element is responsible for assisting or locating POCs not stationed at Papa to assist.
This base has no child and/or youth care services. If you are a single parent or dual military with small children, you may need to re-evaluate your volunteer status for this assignment and/or accompanied status.
Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions
The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110. Please note that long distance charges may be incurred.
***There is a DSN Converter App available for Europe that will automatically convert DSN number to EU Commercial that can simplify contacting someone overseas.***
