Base Regulations
If you are planning to move into on-base housing, and you have a pet, read the "Pets" section of the "Frequently Asked Questions" page on the Vance Family Housing website.
When traveling with your pet, his well-being should be of primary concern to you. Your pet will be subject to conditions guaranteed to cause stress. A clean bill of health is an important first step in assuring your pet’s ability to adjust safely to unfamiliar surroundings. Before traveling, ensure your pet is up-to-date with all inoculations and be sure to carry the documentation with you. When traveling, your pet will be “out of his own backyard” and subject to contact with unknown animals. His chances of contracting disease or infection greatly increases. If traveling by air, you may consider asking your veterinarian to prescribe motion sickness medication or a sedative as a preventive measure. NEVER give your pet tranquilizers without your vet’s approval and NEVER give an animal any medication that has been prescribed for human use. During summer hours, schedule travel for early morning or evening hours. NEVER leave your pet alone in a vehicle under any circumstances. Ensure your pet has identification tags. It is highly advisable that you plan ahead for the expense of shipping your pet to your new duty station by contacting several airlines to determine the costs and restrictions.
There are no kennels on Vance AFB. You will want to do research on pet boarding facilities in the Enid area before you arrive. If you make reservations with a hotel off base, be sure to ask them if they accept pets.
