Vision: Out Front - The Pacesetting Wing
The 23d Wing organizes, trains and employs combat-ready A-10C, HC-130J, HH-60G, Guardian Angel Weapons System and personnel consisting of approximately 5,500 military and civilian personnel including geographically separated units in Nevada, Florida, and Arizona. The 23d Wing is comprised of six groups – five located at Moody AFB, Georgia and one at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona.

93D AIR GROUND OPERATIONS WING

The 93d Air Ground Operations Wing activated in 2008 and became the first wing to provide highly-trained ground combat forces capable of integrating air and space power into the ground scheme of fire and maneuver. The wing members conduct offensive and defensive ground combat operations worldwide to protect expeditionary aerospace forces with an airborne capability. At a moment's notice, they: 1.) Provide worldwide deployable, "first-in," fully integrated, multi-disciplined capabilities, 2.) Provide the joint force commander airborne, air-mobile, air-land and over-land insertion capability and 3.) Remain the joint expert on integration of air power and combat weather support to ground forces. They provide Joint Force Commanders with expertise on the integration of air power and extend the Theater Air Control System for the Joint Forces Air Component Commander. They also provide highly trained forces capable of employing air power activities in close coordination with land operations, including combat weather support to land forces. All this is to rapidly deploy and conduct offensive and defensive ground combat operations worldwide to protect expeditionary forces anywhere, anytime. The 93d AGOW is comprised of three operational groups, 17 squadrons, 10 detachments, 12 operating locations at 20 locations with 18 host Air Force Base's owned by 7 MAJCOMs.

The base had its beginning in 1940, when a group of concerned Valdosta and Lowndes County citizens began searching for a way to assist the expanding defense program. Careful investigation showed that the development of an air corp training base would be the best way to help the program. On May 14, 1941, the War Department was granted exclusive use of 9,300 acres of land by the Agriculture Department. Moody Air Force Base was named in memory of Major George Putnam Moody, an Air Force pioneer killed in May 1941, while serving with the Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas. At the time of his death, Major Moody was working on the inspection board for the AT-10 transitional trainers that were later sent to Moody AFB. Today, Moody AFB is the home of the 23d Wing "Flying Tigers," and the 93d Air Ground Operations Wing. For more information visit Moody's homepage http://www.moody.af.mil/.

Moody AFB is located in south Georgia, just 30 miles north of the Florida border. The base lies 10 miles northeast of the city of Valdosta on Georgia highway 125, also known as Bemiss Road. If you are traveling by air, please make arrangements with your sponsor to meet you at the Valdosta airport. If you arrive and have not made arrangements for someone to meet you, call the Moody Command Post at 229-257-3501 and ask that they connect you to your first sergeant.

From the Airport

• Exit right out of the airport parking lot and turn left onto Georgia (GA) Hwy 31 (north) also known as the Madison Hwy.
• Take a left at the second stop light onto Ashley Street.
• Follow Ashley St. north through downtown Valdosta to GA Hwy 125 (Bemiss Road).
• The extreme right lane of Ashley St. will bear right onto Bemiss.
• From that point it is nine miles to the base.

If you plan to travel by bus or air, you should contact your sponsor or gaining unit. There is no public transportation system in Valdosta. 

Driving South on I-75

• If you are driving south on I-75, take exit 29 to GA Hwy 122.
• Travel east on GA Hwy 122 through Hahira, GA, toward Lakeland, GA.
• Drive approximately 11 miles to a stop light.
• Turn right (south) onto GA Hwy 125 (Bemiss Road).
• Travel 3 miles to Moody AFB.

Driving North on I-75

• If you are driving north on I-75, take exit 16 to U.S. Highway 84.
• Travel east on Highway 84 (Hill Ave) to downtown Valdosta.
• Turn left (north) on GA Hwy 7 (Ashley Street).
• Follow Ashley St. north to GA Hwy 125 (Bemiss Road).
• The extreme right lane of Ashley St. will bear off to GA 125 (Bemiss Road).
• From this point, it is nine miles to the base.

Important: Bemiss Road has a reputation as a dangerous highway. Please use caution and obey speed limits. Directions can also be obtained through online maps (Select GA for state and 31699 for the zip code)

Currently, there is no base transportation on this installation.
