Youth Programs Moody AFB Youth Programs provides programs and services for military and DOD civilian dependents between the ages of 5 and 18. We provide care and activities before and after school, on school holidays, on Saturdays, and during summer and Christmas vacations. Our facility consists of a full-court gymnasium, a computer and homework lab, a teen lounge, a large game room with snack bar and a multi-purpose wing for school-age programming. Moody AFB Youth Programs is a comprehensive, youth-serving agency for Military and DoD civilian dependents between the ages of 5 and 18. We provide care and activities to include before and after school, care on school holidays, Open Recreation on Saturdays, and during Summer and Christmas breaks. Youth Programs offers opportunities for youth to develop socially, physically, emotionally, and cognitively through fitness activities and league sports, instructional dance classes, special interest clubs like cooking club, character and leadership development groups like KEYSTONE and TORCH, social recreation, health and life skills lessons, fine and performing arts, Power Hour academic assistance, special events, and field trips. Our primary goals for youth are to make positive use of their out-of-school time, to develop civic-mindedness, to avoid violence, to improve literacy, and to learn and use new life skills.
Our facility consists of a School Age Program, Open Recreation Program, Teen Center, full-court gymnasium, computer and homework labs, Snack Bar, Instructional Dance room, Fine Arts room, and a multi-purpose room. We currently serve over 400 registered youth members with an average daily attendance of 141.
School Age Program
The School-Age Program provides care for children age’s five who are enrolled in Kindergarten to 12 before and after school, on school holidays, and during summer breaks. Our program is accredited through the Council on Accreditation (COA) and provides quality care for children of active-duty military, DOD and NAF civilians, Reservists and base contractors. We promote an enriching environment by meeting the social, cognitive, physical, and developmental needs of school-age youth. Fees are based on total family income. Bus transportation to and from Pine Grove Elementary is provided by the Lowndes County Board of Education. The Youth Center offers van transportation to and from Dewar Elementary, Sallas-Mahone Elementary, and Pine Grove Middle for an additional fee. Open Recreation
The Youth Center is open for recreational activities each afternoon and on Saturdays for pre-teens and teens. Self-directed areas offer pool, ping-pong, foosball, computers, video games, TV, full-court gymnasium, and a Teen Center. Youth Center members have unlimited access to these areas during operational hours. Guests may accompany a member for a $4.00 fee. Membership fee is $60 per year.
TORCH Club
Small-group youth leadership & service club for members ages 10 to 13 years old. Club staff can help meet the needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage of their development. This group meets every Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
Give Parents a Break
Air Force Aid Society's respite care program for youth in Kindergarten through age 12 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Care is provided for children of deployed parents, single parents, and others who need a break. Referrals are required and can be obtained at the Family Support Center, Chapel, Child Development Center, or Youth Center.
KEYSTONE
Keeping Every Youth Strongly Tuned in On National Excellence. This youth advisory program encompasses community service, leadership and social development. This group, the heart of Moody's teen programs, meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m. for youths ages 13 to 18.
Power Hour
Helps preteens and teens by providing homework assistance and tutoring. Computers are available. This program operates Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Congressional Award Program
A volunteer recognition program for ages 13 to 24 allows young people the opportunity to set personal goals and achieve them. Goal areas include volunteer public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration. Participants meet individually with an adviser.
Youth of the Quarter and Youth of the Year
A program that recognizes members' service to Club & Community through participation in youth programs, volunteer programs and academic successes. Youth in grades 10 to 12 are eligible to compete.
Dance Classes
Instructional classes in Ballet, Tap, Funky Jazz, and Modern are offered throughout the school year for ages 3 and up on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Contact moodydance@gmail.com for more information.
Soccer
Soccer leagues are played in summer and spring for ages 5 and up. Moody has recently teamed up with Azalea City Soccer Club in order to grow the youth soccer program in Lowndes County. Coaches receive training from the Georgia Youth Soccer League and focus on individual skill development.
Baseball
Baseball, softball, and t-ball leagues are played in the spring. Younger teams play on base. Older teams play with Valdosta Parks and Recreation league.
Start Smart Baseball, Soccer and Basketball
Start Smart is a developmentally appropriate introductory baseball program for children ages 3 and 4. The program includes parents in preparing children for organized baseball in a fun, non-threatening environment. Soccer is taught in the fall, basketball is taught in the winter, and baseball is taught in the spring. An annual sports physical must be completed prior to participating in sports programs.
Moody AFB Youth Sports is proud to be a member of the National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS). All of our coaches are trained and certified members of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA).
