Youth Center

The BAFB Youth Center is a modern 19,922 square foot, state-of-the-art center with three activity rooms, large game room, dance room, music room, TV lounge, computer/study room, gymnasium, kitchen, snack bar and patio.

The Youth Center is open: 6:30 to 7:20 a.m. (van leaves promptly at 7:20) and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on school days and 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on no school days.

Programs offered at the Youth Center include:

• Before and After School Care - Drop off your children before school for a hot breakfast and transportation to and from Stockwell, WT Lewis, TL Rodes, Platt and Princeton. Transportation is available after school only at Sun City, Bellaire, and Curtis (subject to change). After school snacks, activities and homework assistance are provided.
• School Age Program - The School Age Program is one of the only two before and after school programs in the state that is accredited by the National Afterschool Association. The staff is highly trained and the program offers children/youth the opportunity to develop and enhance their self-help skills and master basic life skills through arts and crafts, dramatic play, high-yield learning activities, homework assistance and field trips. Children/youth ages 5 to 12 are eligible.
• All Children must be current on all shots, including the Flu Shot from the most current Flu Season.

Open Rec Program: Open to any Pre-Teens/Teens ages 9-18.

The Open Rec Program gives youth the opportunity to participate in fun recreational activities, including Lock-Ins, Kids Run, Art Galleries, and much more.

Open Rec Cost:

• $30.00 Monthly or $240.00 Annually
• Summer Time: Monday through Friday 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• School Year: Monday through Friday  2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Youth Employment

Employment for working age youth (on-base) is usually obtained through NAF (Non-Appropriated Funds) in the form of lifeguards, and through individual ambition in the form of babysitting, mowing lawns, pet care and house sitting. The American Red Cross offers classes to obtain babysitting certification through the Military and Family Readiness Center.

Kids in Touch with Kids Sponsorship Program

If your children are between the ages of 9 and 18, send their name, address, age, phone number, gender and hobbies/interests to: Kids in Touch with Kids, 425 Kenney Ave, Barksdale AFB, LA 71110. We will put them in touch with a youth stationed here at Barksdale AFB to gain information about schools, activities and the Barksdale AFB area before they arrive.
