If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. The Base Training and Education Service Center is the central point of contact for all educational programs on base and hosts three universities offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs.
Louisiana Tech University, the largest school on base, offers associate’s degree in general studies with concentrations in seven different areas, and a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. The school operates on a quarter system and offers a full range of courses and classes to meet the needs of most students. Registration is also open to family members and civilians from the local community on a space available basis.
Northwestern State University offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs in a variety of disciplines and through various mediums; however, Business Administration and Nursing are the two programs offered on base. The school operates on a semester system with embedded shorter A/B terms. Registration is open to all military members, their families, DoD Civilians, and local community civilians.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in numerous fields of study. Classes are held on base; online & EagleVision Home. Registration is open to all military members, their families, Veterans, DoD Civilians, and local community civilians.
The Air Force also offers extension courses. College testing services for proctored exams and exams for credit are given through the on-base Bossier Parish Community Center Nation Testing Center site. The training and education center is located at 723 Douhet Drive. Air Force members may use either tuition assistance or their VA benefits to fund their education.
