A wide range of programs are available for youth and teens, including youth sports and recreation programs, educational programs and programs that support leadership and career development. Please review the information to learn what programs and services are available at this installation.
Columbus AFB Youth Center offers a wide variety of fun programs for ages 3-18. The School Age Program, one of only two programs in Mississippi to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), provides quality, year-round child care for youth in grades K-6. The Open Recreation Program is a membership program for youth 9-18. Currently our membership is FREE. We offer a variety of Air Force programming in The Arts, Education, Leadership, Health and Wellness, Sports and Recreation. We are also affiliated with Boys and Girls Clubs of American and 4-H Club of Lowndes County. Pre-teens and Teens participate in a variety of programs each year such as Youth of the Year, Image-Makers Digital Arts Photography Club, National Fine Arts Exhibit, Torch Club & Keystone Clubs (leadership clubs), POWERHour (homework help), Money Matters, Career Launch, Health and Life Skills, Start Smart, Passport to Manhood, Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Triple Play, S.T.E. M., and much more. Pre-teens and teens also perform a variety of community service projects on and off-base such as volunteering with Breakfast with Santa to filling the community pantries around Columbus, to helping with United Way’s coat drive, to walking dogs at the Lowndes County Humane Society. Immunizations and Flu records are required.
Youth Sports is available for children 3 and up. We offer Flag Football, Spring and Fall Soccer, Basketball, Tee-ball, and a variety of Sports Camps throughout the year. We charge a minimal fee and with it comes a T-shirt, participation award, and a closing ceremony. Homeschool PE is also offered throughout the year.Our Youth Sports Director is trained under the National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS). Our sports focus on wholesome activities, fitness, and healthy lifestyles. We are a non-competitive sports program. A Sports physical is required to participate.
