Check-in Procedures

Military personnel:

• Dugway does not have a Military Personnel Center on post.
• Military personnel being assigned to Dugway Proving Ground may be required to in-process at Fort Carson, Colorado in addition to in processing at Dugway Proving Ground. All military personnel should contact their respective gaining command to obtain in-processing information and to avoid undue travel. You may also contact the Dugway Proving Ground DHR office for assistance at 435-831-2826 or DSN 312-789-2826.
• Military personnel should check in with Army Community Service upon arrival at 435.831.2260. They will be able to provide additional installation information including maps and more. Additionally, they can inform you on available services such as the Lending Closet.

Civilian personnel and contractors:

Civilian employees should check in with the Civilian Personnel Assistance Center in building 5450 for in-processing. Contractors should check in with the supervisor at their place of employment. If you arrive after working hours or on the weekend, ensure your employer has put you on the access entry roster. Contract guards at the main gate can assist with directions. Contact your sponsor, and 435-831-2929 will put you in contact with Dugway Proving Ground police with any other concerns or questions.

Newcomers' orientation:

Newcomers' orientations are typically offered the second Thursday of every other month. Contact the relocation program manager for times and reservations at 435-831-2260 DSN 312-789-2260.

Plan on hand carrying orders (minimum of five copies), identification cards, vehicle: insurance, registration and title, birth certificates, adoption papers, allotment records, bank statements, checks, credit cards, deeds and mortgages, divorce papers, education report cards and records, insurance policies, immunization records, leave and earnings statements, marriage certificate, medical records, household goods inventory, original will, passports and visas, privately owned vehicle shipping documents, power of attorney, resumes, letters of recommendation, records of employment, income tax records (last three years), Social Security cards, travelers checks, savings bonds and W-2 forms.

Please use caution as you travel to Dugway in a privately owned vehicle or rental car. Dugway is the most remote and isolated duty station in the continental United States.

Roads off the main highway to Dugway Proving Ground are two lanes, where open-range grazing is practiced in surrounding area, so cattle may be on roads. Deer, pronghorn sheep, bison and jack rabbits frequently inhabit the roadways as well. If arriving after sunset, use extreme caution, as the roadways off the main highway are not lit - watch out for these hazards. The last services for vehicles prior to arriving at Dugway Proving Ground are approximately 70 miles out; ensure your vehicle is properly fueled and maintained.

Temporary lodging reservations on Dugway Proving Ground can be made by contacting The Desert Lodge (Army IHG) at 435-831-6500, DSN 312-789-6500. Make reservations as soon as possible to ensure availability. For the best rates, be sure to let them know that you are a Service Member traveling on orders, or a DA Civilian reporting to Dugway to work.

If you get married before you PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you do not follow proper procedures.

If you get married while en route to Dugway:

• Notify Chain of Command: Immediately inform your losing and gaining chain of command. This is paramount. A phone call is best initially, followed by official email notification. Be prepared to provide details of the marriage (date, location, spouse’s information).
• Update Personnel Records: This is critical. You must update your personnel records (personnel file, DEERS – Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System) to reflect your marital status and add your spouse as a dependent. Coordinate this through your losing unit’s personnel section.
• Review Orders: Determine if the marriage impacts your orders. A change in dependent status may necessitate a review or amendment of your orders, particularly regarding dependency benefits and housing allowances.
• DEERS Enrollment: Your spouse must be enrolled in DEERS to be eligible for benefits (healthcare, housing allowance, etc.). This must be done as soon as possible. You will require, at a minimum, an official copy of your marriage certificate as well as documents proving the identify of your new spouse - birth certificate, social security card, passport, etc.
• Healthcare: Ensure your spouse is covered by TRICARE. DEERS enrollment is the first step. Understand the TRICARE plan options and enrollment procedures.
• Housing: Your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) may be adjusted based on your marital status and dependency status. Coordinate with your gaining unit’s housing office to understand your options and entitlements.
• Finance: Update your financial allotments and direct deposit information to reflect your new marital status.
