A loan closet is a program that allows service members, families and loved ones to borrow durable equipment or resources especially as they are awaiting their household good. This program varies by service so check out the below information to see what is offered at this installation.
Fort Belvoir Army Community Service has a Loan Closet that offers an extensive inventory of household items. Items available for loan include:
Child car seats and portable cribs are available to help make your transition in and out of the area smoother. Bed linens, blankets, pillows and towels are not provided, so plan to bring or ship these items to save unnecessary expenses.
The Lending Closet loans items on a first-come, first-served basis. Prior to borrowing items, military personnel and government civilian employees must provide a military identification card and a copy of their orders. Items may be borrowed for two weeks at a time; requests for extensions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Call the Fort Belvoir Relocation Readiness Program at 571-231-7001 before the due date if an extension is required. Operating hours are 8 a.m.-3:45 p.m., Monday-Friday, excluding holidays.
There is also a thrift shop on Fort Belvoir, which is located at 10002 Caples Road. It is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, as well as the first and third Saturday of the month, 9-11 a.m. for consignments and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. for sales. Our thrift shop is newly renovated, clean, well stocked and staffed with friendly folks who are here to help. If you are military, you can open a consignment account to sell your unwanted items.
