A wide range of programs are available for youth and teens, including youth sports and recreation programs, educational programs and programs that support leadership and career development. Please review the information to learn what programs and services are available at this installation.
School Liaison Officers (SLO's) across the Army support families and students as they transition from one school system to another. SLO's are under Child & Youth Services. SLO's are eager to help parents with information on local or DoD schools including enrollment, transfer of records, and information on school academic standings. SLO's provide support to families throughout their service at a duty station by providing pertinent school information, staying current on local issues affecting students, and continuing to enhance partnerships and programs with other local area schools. SLO's are available to parents, school administrators, and students who may be experiencing academic issues or have school related concerns and questions.
The Youth Center is the place for teens to enjoy activities such as video games, billiards, foosball, Nintendo, board games, table games, dances, contests, special events, tournaments and theme parties. The teens have input, brainstorm and can make suggestions for future events. The youth center offers a youth sponsorship program to support mobile military youth by being a first day buddy and providing support to new students.
Youth Technology Laboratories -- These PC and technology programs encourage learning creative and technical skills in a fun way. Open for family time, homeschoolers, and also coordinated with the homework center. For homeschoolers, please call 301-619-2901 for hours and availability.
One Middle/Teen Center on post provides youth programs, including summer camp opportunities, video games, computers, a shared gym and other activities. Assists in meeting the needs of military children in transition from one installation to the other. There are several interested youth who are willing to correspond with others PCSing to Fort Detrick. When these new young people arrive, their transition to school athletics and other youth center activities may be made easier by contacting the youth already here. We will also attempt to assist youth who are leaving Fort Detrick by contacting appropriate personnel at their new destination. If you are interested in a youth sponsor for your children, contact YS by calling 301-619-2901.
The following are sports opportunities on the installation. For more information on the youth sports programs and for current sign up guidelines, contact the director at 301-619-2538.
