Military personnel reporting for duty at Fort Detrick are REQUIRED to report to the Housing Office prior to seeking off-post rental housing.
Balfour Beatty Communities serves as the Fort Detrick privatization provider. You may view floor plans by visiting their website. There are amenities such as playgrounds, jogging paths, walkways and a community center within walking distance of all units. The plan provides all the components that are needed to provide quality homes to service members and their families. Balfour Beatty Communities is responsible for the operation and maintenance of family housing including lawn maintenance. They are located at 6000 Ditto Avenue. Their operating hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. After in-processing through the unit, application for government housing can be made at the Balfour Beatty office.
There are 353 total units on the installation. Only 21 are designated for pay grades O4 and above. Stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and washer/dryer hook-ups are in all quarters. Cable television, telephone and internet ready. Ample storage. Some have garages and all have adequate and overflow parking.
Single Service Member Housing
The single soldier housing program falls under Army Barrack Management Program (ABMP). Each unit has their primary and alternate building manager. When the single service members sign into their units, their unit building manager is responsible for assigning them a room and a storage cage. There is adequate space for single Soldiers in pay grades E1-E5. Order, a current LES, and a duty telephone number are required for in-processing.
There are five buildings, which were constructed in 1998. In accordance with recent changes in Army policy, incoming single Soldiers in the grade of E6 will be authorized basic allowance for housing (BAH) at the without dependent rate and will be required to reside off post. Additionally, geographical bachelors (Soldiers entitled to BAH at the "with dependent" rate, who are voluntarily separated from their family members) are not authorized assignment to barracks.
Housing Services Office-(HSO) -- The HSO is your contact for any problems you may encounter such as discrimination complaints, tenant/landlord disputes, or any questions or problems about off-post housing is the HSO. The HSO will provide you a list of websites that provide information on rentals available.
The HSO can provide an overview of community, resources and amenities, provide maps, school information and other community service information. The HSO also provides desk space and a telephone and computer for your use while searching for housing options.
