If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
The American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces team is happy to serve the Fort Polk community! If you need to generate an Emergency Communication Message (Red Cross Message), please contact the American Red Cross Hero Care Center at 1-877-272-7337. Our Hero Care Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Fort Polk Red Cross office is located at 1778 3rd St. (Building 220) Fort Polk, LA, office hours are Monday-Friday 0830-1600. For any additional Red Cross information please contact our office at (337) 531-4783.
Before you leave make sure you have all your important papers with you i.e. birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports, if you have school age children please make sure that you bring all there school documentation with you, to include their shot records; if you have pets you should have there shot records with you as well do not pack these items with your household goods. Make sure you have all important numbers such as American Red Cross, ACS (new and old post), new Command Duty Officer and your sponsor who can be invaluable in case of an emergency while in transit.
The Financial Readiness Program (FRP) can provide financial assistance with PCS travel related costs. Army Emergency Relief (AER) (or any other military installations) or Red Cross can also assist in the event that there is a financial emergency while PCSing, if a Soldier does not have a Government Travel Card while reporting to their first duty station or is not entitled to an Army-funded move AER may be able to help.
