Relocation Assistance

Your Military and Family Support Center provides relocation assistance to help make PCS moves as smooth as possible. Resources include:

• PCS planning: Most relocation assistance programs offer consultations to help you with the moving process. If this your first military move, your first time moving overseas or you have challenging or complex circumstances contact your installation Relocation Assistance Program as soon as possible for support.
• Plan My Move: An online Defense Department relocation tool that provides you with customizable checklists and links to helpful resources for the tasks ahead.
• Military OneSource: A website and call center that offer 24/7 support for moving information and resources. • Workshops and briefings: Workshops vary by location. You may find classes on housing options, moving with children, moving with pets and more.
• Predeparture briefings: These sessions provide essential information about your move and may be required for some populations.
• Special needs: If you have a child or family member enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program, contact your installation EFMP-Family Support office to assist you.
• Settling-in services: Look for welcome programs or local area tours that may offered. Overseas services may include introductory language classes and cultural awareness activities.
• Foreign-born spouse support: Assistance includes information and referral to resources such as immigration and naturalization.
• Emergency assistance: Sometime emergencies occur while moving. The Military and Family Support Center has the resources to provide emergency financial assistance, as well as information and referrals.
• Authorized housing flexibility options: Eligible service members with PCS orders may be entitled to flexibilities such as extended stays in government housing and early housing eligibility. Contact your military personnel office for more information.
• Spouse licensure reimbursement: Your service branch may reimburse spouses up to $1,000 for relicensure and certification costs resulting from relocations or PCS moves. Relocation Readiness Program (RRP)

Relocation Readiness provides information, guidance and assistance to help minimize the impact on Families and Soldiers PCSing or exiting the Army.  We offer a variety of services that can assist whenever you need it. 

Relocation Counseling: 

Provides tools for a structured, organized move for the transitioning service and/or Family members throughout the chaos of relocation.  Area information is offered, as is a relocation plan.  This program is designed to help with newly arriving or departing personnel and their Family members to get through the stressful situations of relocating to or departing from a military post or the civilian community.  This is offered in conjunction with other classes and services offered by Relocation Readiness.

Moving to Fort Johnson:

Welcome packets are available upon request. Packets include up to date information on Ft. Johnson and the surrounding area. For more information call 337-531-6941

CONUS:

Per DA Regulation 608-1, Relocation Readiness offers state side orientations once a month to military personnel and Family members. This brief is designed for all Service and Family members especially for those that have never moved with the military before. Please call to schedule an appointment.

Mandatory Overseas Orientation (OCONUS):

Per DA Regulation 608-1, Relocation Readiness offers overseas orientations once a month to military personnel and Family members relocating to an overseas assignment. This orientation is designed to help familiarize departing personnel with their new overseas duty station and community. Relocation Readiness addresses the cultural aspects and driving habits of the overseas assignment. It is mandatory training for all Service Members. Please call 531-6941 to schedule an appointment.

Newcomer—Reentry Orientation:

Is an information session for incoming Soldiers that is held every Thursday.  The orientation is held at ACS, BLDG 920 from 0800-1200.  Provides newly arriving personnel and Family members the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the Fort Johnson community.  Representatives from various agencies provide information on Fort Johnson and surrounding area about their services.  

Sponsorship Support:

Relocation Readiness staff provides guidance and materials for military personnel appointed as sponsors within the military units.  Sponsorship Training and workshops are done upon request.
