If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
First of all make sure you have all your important papers with you and not packed in your household goods. Numbers for the Officer of the Day, your Command Duty Office and your sponsor can be invaluable in case of emergency while in transit. The American Red Cross is always available for emergency aid anywhere you may be. You can contact the nearest chapter at Southeast Louisiana Chapter 2626 Canal Street New Orleans Louisiana 70119. They can be reached at 504-620-3150 or online. They can sometimes help with emergency financial assistance and contacting individuals or military commands that will need to know where you are and what's happening. Plan for the unexpected and it probably won't happen.
Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) aims to help active duty and retired Sailors, Marines, and their families get through difficult times. NMCRS provides financial emergency assistance based upon need through either loans or grants when there is a particular hardship. Their services are free and confidential as their compassionate staff understands the unique challenges of military life. Since in 1899 The Salvation Army has provided emergency services to individuals and communities affected by disasters and other catastrophic events. The local Salvation Army Thrift Store accepts donated goods and sell to help support the community. There are many different ways to donate money to The Salvation Army. One way to donate is to put money in a red kettle at Christmas time. There are however other ways that you can donate year round. Regardless of how well you have planned emergencies do happen. What should you do in case of an emergency while your are traveling?
Military members and their families should look for the nearest military installation for help. The Army Emergency Relief, Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society and Air Force Aid Society are ready to assist. If assistance is needed due to a vehicle breakdown, contact the American Automobile Association. If you're a member, contact the local information operator for a hospital or road service depending on the emergency.
