Housing in the local community runs the spectrum from studios, furnished and unfurnished apartments, townhomes, house rentals and new home construction as well as resale in rural, urban, and suburban areas. Those seeking a more metropolitan setting may choose to live in the District. Those seeking a rural setting may choose the farther reaches of Charles, Calvert or St. Mary's counties in Maryland. Many choose to live in Alexandria, Virginia or to commute from further south in Virginia.
Where you chose to live is a highly personal matter, and you need to take into consideration your needs and preferences as well as those of your family. If you plan on house hunting temporary additional duty/ temporary duty travel, consider contacting a realtor to show you around the available properties. Regardless of your housing choice, the Housing Referral Office should be your first stop. They can provide information on housing availability and lists of housing in the area tailored to your needs.
