When you arrive at your new installation, you’ll need to follow installation-specific procedures. Each installation and service handles in-processing differently. Here, you can find installation-specific guidelines and a list of documents to bring with you when checking- in. Reach out to the contacts provided if you have specific questions.
Picatinny Arsenal is located in northern New Jersey surrounded by the cities of Wharton and Dover, NJ. This area is considered a high cost living area with limited military resources.
All active duty military assigned to or requesting residence on Picatinny Arsenal, must contact the Military Personnel Directorate (MPD) earlier to their arrival date. All Soldiers and Families members assigned or liaison with Mission Partner Organizations to Picatinny Arsenal will conduct in-processing and out-processing procedures IAW AR 600-8-101 requirements.
By contacting MPD early, your unit can project your arrival and appropriately sponsor and assist you and your family with your relocation needs. Picatinny Arsenal does not have Single Soldier Housing or Barracks and lodging rates and availability details is obtained at 973-724-4014.
Day of Arrival:
If your arrival is at the Newark Airport, it is your responsibility to coordinate your travel arrangements to Picatinny Arsenal. Ensure that you save all your receipts so that you can make an appropriate travel claim when you in-process the installation.
Upon arrival to Picatinny Arsenal, all military personnel will report to the Military Personnel Directorate is located in Building 34 North. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 0800-1530.
In-processing procedures take approximately half a work day. Arrive no later than 1000 hours in order to complete the process the same day.
Soldiers must have a copy of DA Form 31 (Leave), assignment orders, and/or amendments. Information pertaining to DD Form 93 and SGLI is updated at this time. Soldiers must be in Duty uniform.
All incoming military personnel, after signing in for duty and in-processing with the Military Personnel Directorate, will report to the Housing Services Office (HSO). Personnel will then be referred to the appropriate office for the desired Housing.
Acquisition of housing is not complete until all in-processing station requirements have been met.

Currently Picatinny has 12 locations for recreational lodging and operate on a first come, first served basis. All locations include WiFi access.. Some of the locations also include Roku service. The locations are all non-smoking facilities and some are pet friendly.

Reservations can be made by calling Community Recreation at 973-724-3697, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Reservations must be secured with a MasterCard or VISA card. Cancelations made 72 hours prior to check in will be honored with no charge; cancelations made less than 72 hours prior to check-in and "no-shows" will be charged for one night on your credit card. Check-in is at 3 p.m. Check-out is at 11 a.m.
If you get married prior to your permanent change of station, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse, if you do not follow proper procedures.
Those residing, but not working on Picatinny Arsenal, must stop by Military Personnel to sign the EOC.
Command Sponsorship
Sponsors can help ease the stress of moving. Sponsors are Military or Civilian Members and their families who provide new families with a personal contact and reliable information about their new community. Each branch of the military is different.

There is no general delivery. Please call your forwarding unit admin to inquire if they will collect your mail.
Seat Belt Use/Child Restraints
Occupants of all motor vehicles operating on base in the state of NJ are required to wear safety belts. Picatinny Arsenal Police are authorized to issue traffic citations for violations. Children less than 8 years of age or under 80 pounds must be in a car seat.
