When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Residential housing at Picatinny Arsenal has been privatized since the summer of 2006. The results of the Army partnering with Balfour Beatty Communities has proven to benefit and improve the overall condition and standard of living for our service members. Privatization has enabled Picatinny Arsenal to receive 26 newly constructed homes.
Service members assigned to Picatinny Arsenal are encouraged to contact Balfour Beatty Communities as soon as they receive orders confirming their assignment to the base. This will enable BBC to determine your housing needs and open the lines of communication as you prepare to relocate to your Army home in northern New Jersey.

Check-in procedures:
All incoming service members must in-process at the housing office as soon as they arrive. Contact the housing office as soon as possible to get an estimate of the wait time for quarters.

Assignments will be made from the wait list in order of the date of completion of out‐processing at the losing post, unless there is an assignment to relieve hardship approved by the community manager.
Housing Inventory
Exceptional family member housing:
Exceptional family member housing on the installation is provided by BBC. The housing office makes significant improvements to family and exceptional family member housing and recreational facilities. Call the housing office at 973-724-2190 to determine the current status, policies and availability of exceptional family member housing and facilities.
Single service member housing:
Picatinny Arsenal does not provide housing for single service members; however, the housing service office will assist single service members in locating adequate housing from the local communities. Call 973-724-2190.
Housing:
Privatized housing includes 71 three- to eight-bedroom homes in five neighborhoods. Call the community management office at (973) 328-2992.
