Temporary Housing Overview

With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.

Temporary lodging is available at the Presidio of Monterey (POM) and at the Naval Postgraduate School( NPS), but reservations must be made in advance. As soon as you receive orders, please make your reservations.

For POM Lodging reservations and information, call the lodging office at 831-645-1199 or
DSN 312-768-1199. POM Lodging only has two units for pets and there is an additional fee. Contact POM Lodging for details or visit the POM website.

For Naval Postgraduate School lodging, call 831-372-6133 or 800-628-9466. They have four rooms for pets and there is an additional charge for pets. Call for more information or to make reservations.

The Navy Gateway Inn and Suites (formerly bachelor officer quarters) has rooms available for personnel on permanent change of station orders to POM. Those not on orders may call regarding space-available reservations. NGIS has a strict no-pet policy. For reservations or more information, call
831-656-2060. 

Off-Post Availability

Monterey and the surrounding area is a very popular tourist attraction year-round. While there are many motels, hotels and other accommodations in the area, it is possible that there could be no vacancies, and most of the accommodations are very expensive. Always make reservations and be sure to check the prices; even hotel/motel chains that are very reasonable in other sections of the country will have high prices here.
