No matter how well you have planned your move emergencies do happen. Before you leave make sure you have all your important papers with you and not packed with your household good shipment. Make sure you have important numbers such as Staff Duty Officer, your Command Duty Office and your sponsor.
All incoming personnel should have their permanent change of station orders with all amendments, Command Sponsorship orders for spouse and family members, Leave Form DA 31, travel itinerary, 201 file, medical and dental records.
If you get married before your permanent change of station you must inform your command and follow the procedures for command sponsorship exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you do not follow the proper procedures.
In order to prevent any undue financial burdens and hardships it is strongly recommended that you report to Schofield Barracks/Fort Shafter unaccompanied. During in-processing, you will receive instructions on how to acquire Command Sponsorship and necessary steps for travel arrangements for your new Family. Sponsorship questions can be directed to Military Personnel Division at 808-655-1974.
