Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
Once you arrive at your new location and if you own a pet, the city ordinance requires that all cats and dogs over the age of six months be licensed with Aurora Animal Services or City of Denver within 30 days. This license helps animal services identify family pets, should an animal become lost. The fees from licensing are used to care for animals and investigate complaints about stray animals, among other services. Other goals of animal licensing are to promote responsible pet ownership and to reduce the tragedies associated with lost pets and pet overpopulation. You can find current fee schedules for your area online.
The City and County of Denver, City of Aurora, and most surrounding communities have animal control laws. In most areas, dogs must be confined to the owner's property or a leash at all times. There is no quarantine for pets arriving in Colorado from overseas locations. The owner must provide a current health certificate not older than 30 days stating the pet is without disease and has current rabies inoculations. Aurora and Denver ordinances require residents to have their dogs/cats spayed or neutered. According to Denver law, rabies vaccinations are required for all Denver pets. For more information on licensing of pets, contact the animal agency in your city or county.
For information regarding quarantines, pet shipments, and restrictions contact your Buckley Traffic Management Office (720-847-6685) or the U.S. Department of Agriculture in your area prior to travel. They have information and pamphlets regarding shipping, airline regulations, kennels, quarantines and restrictions for worldwide locations. However, since regulations and restrictions change, we recommend you confirm this information with your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, county or city humane society for current information concerning pet care during shipment.
There are no kennels on Buckley Space Force Base; however, the base is located in a major metropolitan area. There are kennels located within minutes of the base. Utilize the internet to find up-to-date information about kennels around Buckley. It is the responsibility of the pet owner to investigate the prices and facilities.
Remember, it is a good idea to make advance reservations for pet boarding as soon as you know your arrival date. This is an area where your sponsor can be of assistance.
