With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
If you are traveling with family members and expect to stay in the Navy Lodge when you arrive, you must obtain a guaranteed reservation as soon as you have a projected arrival date. Your sponsor can easily make a reservation for you and your family at the Navy Lodge. All you need to do is provide them with a copy of your orders and the date of arrival by fax or email. If your arrival date changes, be sure to change your reservation. Be sure to keep your confirmation number with you.
All rooms at the Navy Lodge are pet friendly, but contact the Navy Lodge to let them know you’ll have a pet with you.
While single members may report almost immediately to their parent commands or get temporary billeting in the bachelor enlisted quarters or bachelor officer quarters, families will most likely spend some time at the Yokosuka Navy Lodge, the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or a hotel in town. Make sure you have a copy of your orders, the Family Entry Approval and passports for the check-in process.
The Navy Lodge offers many services to ensure that your stay here will be as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Each room has internet access, a television, a DVD player, an alarm clock, a refrigerator, an iron and ironing board, a coffee pot, a microwave and a hairdryer.
If you would like a room with a kitchen, request it when making your reservation, but note that they aren’t guaranteed. All rooms have access to ice machines, cribs and rollaway beds, an outdoor playground, a picnic and barbecue area, a fitness center, laundry facilities and a playroom for kids. A complimentary breakfast is served daily, and the general manager hosts a manager’s reception for guests to meet and greet with the staff and amongst themselves every Wednesday from 5-6 p.m.
There is a bus stop next at the lodge and the bus schedule and a base map can be picked up at the front desk.
Several Temporary Lodging Allowance-approved hotels within walking distance or a short taxi ride from the Main Gate of the base are available for temporary lodging when on-base facilities are full. You must obtain a receipt from the hotel for proper TLA reimbursement. If you do not have hotel reservations, the Navy Lodge or Commander Naval Forces Japan Housing Welcome Center can provide you or your sponsor with a list of hotels (western style or Japanese style) in the Yokosuka community.
Guests are responsible for paying their lodging bill after each 10-day period of stay. Your TLA will be paid by the Disbursing Office after the Navy Lodge endorses your receipt. Important: Your TLA will not start until you have checked into your command or into the Transient Personnel Unit if your afloat command is out of port. You cannot draw TLA while you are in a travel status.
You can only draw TLA while on a leave status after you have checked into your gaining command or TPU and after your gaining command authorizes subsequent leave. If Welcome Center personnel state that Military Family Housing may be available within 60 days, you may remain at the Navy Lodge and TLA will be paid in 10-day increments until you move in. Declination of MFH may result in TLA being stopped. If the Welcome Center indicates MFH will not be available within 60 days, you must actively pursue off-base housing (a minimum of five houses per week) to be eligible for TLA.
Express/UB shipments will not be delivered to the Navy Lodge or NGIS. Bring a sufficient quantity of appropriate items in your regular luggage to cover expected needs.
