If living on the installation, dogs and cats are required to have up-to-date rabies vaccinations and a microchip. All uncaged pets over 12 weeks of age must be registered within five to seven days upon arrival on post. To register your pet, contact the veterinary clinic on post at 520-533-2767. Registration may be done Monday through Friday from 8-11 a.m. and from 1-4 p.m.

Ownership or maintenance of more than two uncaged pets in family housing is prohibited. Animals must be maintained in a fenced yard or on a leash.

If living in the Sierra Vista community, all pets must have a valid license and an up-to-date rabies vaccination. Pets are not allowed to run loose in the community. To purchase a license, contact the City of Sierra Vista.

When preparing for your move, make sure your pet has no health problems. Your pet will be subjected to conditions guaranteed to cause stress. A clean bill of health is an important first step in assuring your pet's ability to adjust safely to unfamiliar surroundings. Also, make sure your pet has proper identification tags. The information should include your pet's name, your name, address and phone number. In addition, most states and countries require recent health certificates and disease inoculation documentation before you are allowed to cross borders, making a trip to the veterinarian mandatory.

When traveling by air, it best to contact the airline that you will be flying on for the specifics of the pet kennel/carrier. Your pet must have room to turn freely while in a standing position and be able to use normal movements in order to stand erect or lie down in a natural position. A container of water should be secured to the inside of the carrier positioned so that it can be filled without opening the cage. A drip bottle is recommended. Cost for pet shipment will vary depending on the airline and the originating and final destination. Contact your airline for prices and any restrictions due to climate or seasonal conditions.

Horses that will be kept on the installation will have a mandatory 10-day quarantine at the veterinary clinic.

Prior to your arrival to Ft. Huachuca, it is best to contact the lodging facility to request a room where pets may be kept as there is no boarding facility on post. Some local boarding facilities include:  

 Call the facilities for further information. Most facilities require reservations, ensure you call at least two weeks in advance, note that space is limited in the summer and during most holidays.

The veterinary clinic provides rabies vaccinations, deworming, health certificates and microchipping. Sick call is conducted by appointment only. All active duty and military retirees are eligible to utilize the veterinary clinic.
