If you are leaving your Family at another location, be sure they understand the reason for the separation. Be certain that your spouse and older children are aware of your financial system: bills, checkbook, lock boxes, bonds, insurance, etc. Be sure that all identification cards are valid. Check the vehicle your spouse will be using to be sure it is in good repair and that all registrations and licenses are current. You may want to check into getting a power of attorney for your spouse.

Military and Family Life Counselors aim to enhance operational and Family readiness and assist service members and their Families with circumstances occurring across the military life cycle. They provide support to individuals, couples, Families and groups for a range of issues including, but not limited to, deployment stress, reintegration, relocation adjustment, separation, anger management, conflict resolution, parenting, parent/child communication, relationship and Family issues, coping skills, homesickness and grief and loss. All Military and Family Life Counselors provide confidential, non-medical, face-to-face counseling services both on and off military installations.

All Military and Family Life Counselors have master's degrees or doctorates in a mental health-related field such as social work, psychology, marriage and Family therapy or counseling, and all counselors possess a valid unrestricted counseling license or certification from a state, the District of Columbia, a U.S. commonwealth or a U.S. territory that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner in a respective field. Counseling is private and confidential, with the exception of mandatory state, federal and military duty-to-warn reporting requirements.

The Army Family Readiness Group website provides a secure environment in which information, resources, and support are available to soldiers and their family members 24 hours a day, regardless of their geographic location. A unit’s virtual FRG site promotes the community feeling within Army units by providing a place that is customized to the unit and contains content that is controlled by the unit.

The vFRG provides all of the functionality of a traditional FRG in an ad-hoc and online setting to meet the needs of geographically dispersed units and families across all components of the Army. The vFRG is a commander’s tool that allows them to communicate directly to soldiers and family members. Unit vFRG sites can be accessed at any time to view information and photos, read stories, ask questions, participate in forums and more.

Sgt. Mike's Neighborhood presents...Kids Have Feelings, Too Puppet Show

What is the puppet show about?

The cast of Sgt. Mike’s Neighborhood (Rachel, Tommy and Sgt. Mike) explore their feelings and learn how to deal with deployment and reunion challenges that many military families experience. The three shows available are all performed within the backdrop of music, lights and movement:

Far Away (pre-deployment)

Coming Home (reunion)

Who is the puppet show designed for?

Sgt. Mike’s puppet shows are a resource to facilitate communication to help the children explore the emotions and challenges associated with all cycles of the deployment process. The puppet show was designed for children ages 4-12 and their parents and caregivers. Parents and caregivers are required to attend the show and use the performance as a gateway into a conversation about the deployment cycle and their children’s feelings.
