Be aware of agencies that may render aid, such as nearby military facilities, Red Cross, Salvation Army and local hospitals, in case of a medical emergency. For emergency assistance, several agencies and services are available depending on the emergency circumstances. The Military and Family Support Center is a good starting point for information and referral to appropriate emergency-related services, to include Red Cross, Air Force Aid Society, chaplain, mental health services and counseling and others. Navy Marine Corps Relief Society-Lakehurst assists active duty, retirees and reservists who are on extended duty for 30 days or more with Emergency Financial Assistance in the form of interest-free loans, grants and education programs. You may wish to check out AAA prior to departure for assistance with automobile emergencies and other travel assistance. Be sure your automobile is in good running condition and is prepared for minor mishaps such as flat tires or dead batteries. In New Jersey and the surrounding region, the major interstates and turnpikes are well traveled, have emergency call boxes located frequently along the roadside and are well patrolled by state police.
Note: Although not an emergency, keep in mind that New Jersey and the surrounding region have many toll roads and bridges. You will need extra money to cover this expense!
