When PCS'ing from your current residence, create a 'do not pack' area. There are going to be some things that you do not want packed with your household goods and that you will need to hand carry, to include important documents. Some documents you will want to have available include: PCS orders, all family members ID cards, medical records, shot records, school records, powers of attorney, social security cards, birth certificates, passports, etc.
These documents will also be needed to enroll children into school and it's possible that will need to happen before your household goods arrive.
Have a written list of phone numbers available in case something happens to your phone. Some numbers to have available include: relatives, base sponsor, gaining unit First Sergeant and CSS, and the command post at Mountain Home. They will be invaluable in case of an emergency while traveling. Also refer to the Emergency Contacts sections within this part of the Base Essential's site.
