With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
There are three options for temporary lodging for transferring service members and their families - Navy Gateway Inns & Suites, Navy Lodge or local hotels.
Navy Gateway Inns & Suites
There are 7 Navy Gateway Inns & Suites in the Hampton Roads region. These facilities are available to both single and married service members and offer a variety of rooms: suites, single rooms, rooms with kitchenettes and rooms that are handicap accessible. For reservations and rates call 877-682-9233 or visit the website.
Navy Lodges
There are three Navy Lodges in the Hampton Roads area - JEB Little Creek, Norfolk Naval Base, and Dam Neck Annex. Amenities include: kitchenette, free local telephone calls, cable tv, air conditioning, cribs and rollaways, and irons/ironing boards. Call 800-628-9466 in advance to make reservations or make reservations online.
Local Hotels
There are many hotels in the surrounding area. Room rates vary depending upon the hotel, size of the room and time of the year.
There are three Navy Lodges in the Hampton Roads area. Please call 877-682-9233 in advance to make reservations. Service members also have the option of lodging at the Gateway Inn and Suites, previously known as (BEQ and BOQ). Service members on PCS orders have priority for reservations. Family members are allowed to stay in quarters with the service member. Please call 877-682-9233 or 757-445-7800 to speak to a reservation staff member.
Pets are not allowed in the Navy Lodge at Dam Neck or the regional Visiting Quarters; however the Navy Lodges at NAB Little Creek & NS Norfolk have limited ‘pet rooms' and some local hotels allow pets or local pet boarding facilities. (See Check-in Procedures and Household Goods - Shipping Pets for more information).
If you are single and require bachelor's quarters, you can call the Combined Bachelor Quarters, 757-433-3791 (Oceana) or 757-492-6824 (Dam Neck) to make a reservation.
Reservations are accepted for all eligible personnel on an as-received basis. Official guests and visitors of the command may stay at the NGIS and Navy Lodges. Reservations are to be made and guaranteed by the sponsor. Family members, staying at NGIS and Navy Lodges without the military member, are required to show their identification at check-in. Guests of military personnel may stay at Navy Gateway Inns & Suites and Navy Lodges provided the military member is present at check-in. Reservations and room assignments are made without regard to rank or rate, or time of reservations. You may make advance reservations based on your classification, keep in mind you may receive priority based on PCS orders.
We recommend you make advance hotel/motel reservations in order to assure you have a place to stay while seeking permanent housing. The approximate cost of a unit at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites or Navy Lodge is $85.00 per day. Civilian hotels/motels are available in all price ranges. Many of them exceed the VQ and Navy Lodge, especially in the summer months.
Pets are not allowed in the regional Navy Gateway Inns & Suites; however the Navy Lodges have limited ‘pet rooms' and some local hotels allow pets or local pet boarding facilities. Before you depart your old duty station, schedule a visit with your veterinarian to update all medications or treatments required and bring a copy of each pet's vaccination record. Carry a health certificate for each animal traveling with you. Bring appropriate food and other supplies and always travel with a pet carrier. When you are at the Navy Lodge, treat the area where you walk as if it were your own yard and always clean up after your pet, using the bags provided.
See Check-in Procedures and Household Goods - Shipping Pets for more information.
Length of stay depends on availability. Please contact the NGIS, Navy Lodge or local hotel/motel for more information.
