Contact information for key programs and services at this installation.
A wide range of programs are available for youth and teens, including youth sports and recreation programs, educational programs and programs that support leadership and career development. Please review the information to learn what programs and services are available at this installation.
Our youth centers are open to middle schoolers and high schoolers, grades 6 to 12. After becoming a member of our open recreation program, kids can participate in activities such as foosball, video games, air hockey, pool, team sports or online computer access. Explore individual interests by becoming involved with special interest groups, like art clubs, career clubs and community volunteering. Head out of town on trips to places like Gameworks in Seattle, local water parks, and area malls. And we have lots of cool events for teens right here at our centers, like talent shows, lock-ins and dances.
Additionally, youth programs provide summer camps, homework help and field trips for kids ages 6 to 17 (18 if still enrolled in high school). This recreation program is different from the SAC program in that programs are usually a little less structured and program hours are limited to after school, early evening and weekends. The programs are planned as part of the centers' monthly events - our activities calendars note which events are open to this expanded age group.
At Naval Base Kitsap, we have two centers located on our installations. Our facilities include: Jackson Park Youth and Teen located in the Jackson Park Housing Area in Bremerton and Admiral Boorda Center on NBK Bangor. Memberships for open recreation are free and registration is taken directly at each facility. Some fees will apply for field trips and special events.
Youth Employment
You can get information about occupations and how to find the right job for you from your school's career center, counselors or vocational teachers. You can also connect with the FERP (Family Employment Readiness Program) specialist at the Naval Base Kitsap Fleet & Family Support Center to assist you with employment readiness.
School Age Care Program
These highly structured recreational and educational programs provide youth with age appropriate before and after school activities as well as holiday and summer day camps for youth ages 5 years (and enrolled in kindergarten) - 12 years.
We offer SAC programs in three convenient locations throughout the Navy Region Northwest: Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton and Bangor and Naval Air Station Whidbey. Most programs offer extended hour care.
Religious programs are offered through the Navy Chaplains Office.
There are both Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops available on base through the Boy and Girl Scout Organizations.
Driver's License
Washington State has specific regulations and restrictions for teen (under 18) drivers. For a complete description, go to the Department of Licensing website.
