If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. There are now a number of excellent colleges and universities located on both area bases (the Navy College complex in Naval Base Kitsap- Bremerton and Naval Base Kitsap Bangor). All schools offer a vast variety of programs ranging from associate degrees to masters degrees. Contact our Navy College office on base for further information on programs and tuition assistance.

Naval Base Kitsap has a full functioning Navy College Education Center, which is open to active duty, retired, reserve, and their family members. The following services are available:
Education Counseling - offers professional counseling and advising on all matters relating to academic programs and authorized tuition assistance, as well as administers all on-base education programs.
Educational/Career Interest testing - such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Inventory. These inventories can aid a student in choosing educational paths and careers that fit their personalities and personal goals.
Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support - DANTES is an examination program offering a wide range of exams such as DSST/CLEP/RCEP. Tuition Assistance -- coordinates TA which is the Navy's educational financial assistance program for active duty personnel and provides funding for tuition costs for courses taken in an off-duty status at a college, university or vocational/technical institution, whose regional or national accreditation is recognized by the Department of Education.
College entrance examinations - for undergraduate and graduate level programs.
Academic Skills courses - these courses can assist you in preparing for college courses and provide instruction in basic subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Reading.
Navy College Program for Afloat College Education - provides Sailors the opportunity to experience challenging education and continue their personal and professional growth while on sea duty assignments.
NCP Distance Learning Partnership Schools - provide associates and bachelors degree programs relevant to each rating, and make maximum use of military professional training and experience to fulfill degree requirements.
Rating Roadmaps and Degree Roadmaps - these identify the American Council on Education recommended college credit for Navy training and rating specific work experience across a Navy career in a specific rating. Degree Roadmaps are rating relevant degrees that make the most of recommended credit for Navy training and on-the-job experience.
Joint Service Transcript - JST is an academically accepted document approved by the American Council on Education to validate a service member's military occupational experience and training along with the corresponding ACE college credit recommendations.
Service Members Opportunity Colleges Navy - consists of 85 accredited colleges offering specific associate and bachelors degrees to Navy members worldwide through resident courses or distance learning. Colleges taking part in each curriculum area guarantee to accept each other's credits for transfer.
Currently, tuition assistance is not available for spouses but the Navy College Education Center can assist in locating possible scholarship opportunities.
