It’s likely that employment will change when a move occurs, especially for military spouses. The information below will provide you with employment assistance information and resources available such as SECO, MyCAA and MSEP Portals.
Finding employment opportunities is one of the biggest challenges facing a relocating family. Using the resources in the employment category will assist with volunteer, temporary and permanent positions with the government and government contractors.
Employment on Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is advertised through the Human Resources office; the Navy Exchange; Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) personnel office; and a limited number of contractors. Job listings are available in the Fleet and Family Support Center, USAJOBS, and on the base roller.
The Family Employment Readiness Program is a Department of the Navy-sponsored service that provides free employment assistance, career counseling, career interests and assessments, civilian and federal resume services, interview skills assistance and job referrals. FERP services are available to family members of active-duty personnel, reservists and retired military, as well as spouses of Department of Defense civilians. The FERP office is located in the FFSC or by calling 757-458-4141.
Transition Assistance Program (TAP) offers employment assistance and career counseling to services members who are leaving the military. TAP provides seminars, job fairs, and employment search resources (both in-seat and virtual). TAP representatives are available at the Fleet and Family Support Building 2135.
Service Members can now access Navy College online to learn about Tuition Assistance opportunities. Credentialing Assistance is also available online.
Students may be eligible for financial aid through many different sources. Programs available include Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work Study, Associate Transfer Grant, Two-In-Family Grant, Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Unsubsidized Loan and Parent's Loan. Tuition assistance is only available to service members who qualify.
Unemployment benefits are not available overseas.
Employees would through their respective states to file for unemployment benefits.
